Chronological Age Calculator

Calculate your exact chronological age in seconds. Enter any birth date and our tool returns your age in years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds — accurate to the day. Widely used by teachers for IEP and standardized testing reports, by speech and occupational therapists, by HR for benefits eligibility, and by anyone curious about their precise age. The result follows the standard subtraction method (today's date minus birth date) used by ASHA, school districts, and clinical assessments.

Calculate your exact age in years, months, and days.

Whether you're a teacher preparing IEP paperwork, an SLP scoring the CELF or PLS, a researcher needing exact age for a study, or a parent calculating your child's age in months for milestones — this calculator gives a precise chronological age in years, months and days. It also handles leap years correctly, so February 29 birthdays calculate without errors.

What is chronological age?

Chronological age is the exact amount of time that has elapsed from your birth date to today's date, measured in years, months and days. It differs from biological age (how old your body acts) and mental age (cognitive development level). Chronological age is what schools, clinicians and government agencies use for eligibility decisions.

How chronological age is calculated

The standard method is simple subtraction:

  • Years: current year minus birth year
  • Months: current month minus birth month (borrow 12 if negative)
  • Days: current day minus birth day (borrow days from previous month if negative)

For example, a child born on March 15, 2018 calculated on May 4, 2026 would be 8 years, 1 month and 19 days old.

  • Standardized test scoring (CELF, PLS, WISC, WIAT)
