Menopause Age Calculator
Estimate the approximate age and year you may reach menopause based on your birth date and a few well-studied risk factors. Our calculator combines your current age with the average menopause age in your region (51 years globally per the WHO), then adjusts for family history, smoking, BMI and ethnicity using ranges from peer-reviewed studies. The result is a probable window — not a medical diagnosis. For personal medical advice always speak with your gynecologist or primary care doctor.
Calculate your exact age in years, months, and days.
Whether you are in your 30s planning a family timeline, in your 40s noticing perimenopause symptoms, considering hormone testing, comparing your body to your mother's experience, or just curious about what to expect — this estimator gives you a personalised range. It also explains which factors push menopause earlier (smoking, low BMI, certain medical treatments) and which can push it later (later first period, multiple pregnancies, late-life breastfeeding).
What the calculator uses
Menopause is officially diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a period. The age varies between individuals, but research has identified several reliable predictors:
- Average menopause age: 51 years (worldwide WHO data); 45–55 is the typical range
- Mother's menopause age: the strongest single predictor — daughters reach menopause within ~3 years of their mother's age
- Smoking: shifts menopause 1–2 years earlier on average
- Ethnicity: studies (SWAN cohort) show African-American and Hispanic women reach menopause slightly earlier than white women, Asian women slightly later
- BMI: very low BMI under 18.5 is associated with earlier menopause
- Surgery / chemotherapy: can cause induced menopause regardless of age
Stages of menopause
- Perimenopause: 4–10 years before menopause, irregular periods and hot flashes begin
- Menopause: 12 consecutive months without a period
- Postmenopause: all years after menopause
When to see a doctor
- Periods stop before age 40 (premature ovarian insufficiency)
- Periods stop between 40–45 (early menopause) — discuss bone and heart health
- Heavy or unusual bleeding at any age
- Severe hot flashes or sleep disruption affecting quality of life
